Performance Samples freebies can be used for commercial musical work — there are zero limitations in this regard — the freebies adhere to the same EULA that the paid products do.

I recorded solo cello and violin legato as a first-chair addition for the Pacific ensemble strings, as something that could give the ensemble more detail. This was the first iteration of Pacific Solo Strings. Unfortunately I decided to get too experimental with R&D for the violin sustains and so the violin ended up having some issues that I thought would be troublesome for a release. The cello was unaffected though, and that’s what this cello here is. I decided to re-record Pacific Solo Strings entirely (rather than just re-recording the violin legato), and also recorded other articulations: staccatos, spiccatos, pizzicatos, motion tremolos (example video here), marcatos, harmonics, and of course, legato. Pacific Solo Strings will be an upcoming release, and will available as an option for free for those buying Pacific Ensemble Strings during the Ensemble Strings intro (details not set in stone yet). It made more sense for the original session’s cello legato here to be a standalone release, rather than just a bonus in the re-recording (official release of Pacific Solo Strings). – JB

Library Limitations

  • On some of the intervals, you can hear an “ambience tail” from the pitch of the the landing note when you play an interval (before the note is actually reached)
  • The legato is short-style, and while a lot of work was done to smooth over the interval-to-post-interval-sustain transitions, there is still some degree of shifting audible (depending on the interval)
  • One dynamic only

May 7, 2022 (~6:40 PM PST) – Hotfix: NKI updated with two changes. 1. Default legato on/off key-switches moved up the keyboard so it’s accessible on a standard 88-key MIDI keyboard. 2. Playable key range fixed (it was extended down an octave too far).
